HI-Expansion Fixed Turbex
Fixed high-expansion foam generators for total flooding of large enclosed spaces — on ships and in industry.
The Angus Fire Fixed Turbex (FT range) is a permanently installed high-expansion (HEX) foam generator for marine and industrial fire protection. It is a cost-effective way to fill large voids with foam: a water turbine drives an aerofoil fan, and the forced air pushes the foam forward even against back pressure that would stall blower-type units. Large spaces are usually protected by several units with centralised proportioning. Hexfire supplies the generators, the matching Expandol foam concentrate and design support across Central & Eastern Europe.

How it works
Water under pressure drives a turbine, which turns an aerofoil fan. Foam solution is sprayed onto a tiered foam-making net, and the forced air from the fan expands it to a nominal 500:1. Because the air is forced rather than drawn, the generator keeps pushing foam forward against back pressure, so it can also feed foam through ducting into the protected space.
The premix models (FT1-500P and FT2-500P) are fed with foam solution from a fixed inductor or a variable proportioning system. The self-inducing FT1-500S has its own induction device and needs only a dedicated 3% foam concentrate tank and a pressurised water supply. The recommended concentrate is Expandol at 3%.
The Fixed Turbex is not intended for cryogenic risks. For LNG and LPG, see Fixed LNG Turbex Systems.
Models
| Model | Foam supply | Foam output | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| FT1-500P | Premix (fixed inductor or proportioning system) | 83–114 m³/min | 58 kg |
| FT1-500S | Self-inducing, built-in inductor, 3% foam tank | 83–113 m³/min | 60 kg |
| FT2-500P | Premix, larger unit | 155–214 m³/min | 79 kg |
Where the Fixed Turbex is used
Ships — engine rooms and cargo holds.
Warehouses and packaging plants — large storage volumes with high fire loads.
Chemical stores — enclosed stores of flammable materials.
Mines — total flooding of underground spaces.
Incineration plants — waste bunkers and process areas.
Typical foam performance
| Model | Inlet pressure | Water flow | Foam output | Expansion ratio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FT1-500P | 3 bar | 138 l/min | 83 m³/min | 600:1 |
| FT1-500P | 5 bar | 179 l/min | 100 m³/min | 560:1 |
| FT1-500P | 7 bar | 211 l/min | 114 m³/min | 540:1 |
| FT1-500S | 3 bar | 151 l/min | 83 m³/min | 550:1 |
| FT1-500S | 5 bar | 194 l/min | 99 m³/min | 510:1 |
| FT1-500S | 7 bar | 230 l/min | 113 m³/min | 490:1 |
| FT2-500P | 3 bar | 304 l/min | 155 m³/min | 510:1 |
| FT2-500P | 5 bar | 393 l/min | 196 m³/min | 500:1 |
| FT2-500P | 7 bar | 465 l/min | 214 m³/min | 460:1 |
Typical values at 18 °C with Expandol 3%. Water flow = K × √P (K = 80 for FT1-500P, 87 for FT1-500S, 176 for FT2-500P; P = inlet pressure in bar).

Frequently asked questions
Which model do I need?
It depends on the volume to be filled and the required fill time. Large spaces usually need several units. Send us the room dimensions and we will help you size the system.
Premix or self-inducing?
FT1-500P and FT2-500P need foam solution from a separate proportioning system. FT1-500S draws concentrate itself and needs only a 3% foam tank and water.
Can it be used for LNG?
No. For cryogenic risks use the Fixed LNG Turbex Systems.
How long does delivery take?
Typically 4–6 weeks (up to 8) from order confirmation, plus transport.
